The show

Created for the end of the 2019–2020 season, Crossroads was set to bring together the French and English groups in a two-act production set in a train station and centred around the brand-new Train 3000, presented as the fastest train in the world. The production was unfortunately never performed for the public due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the cancellation of the scheduled performances. In the first act, the station is preparing to host the official launch of the Train 3000. On the platform, we meet Andy, a newspaper seller as charming as he is dishonest, Julie, a homeless woman who lives in the station, Boniface, a passionate train enthusiast, as well as Joséphine and Patricia, two wealthy women who have come to enjoy this exceptional journey. Gaspard, the station manager, is looking forward to what he believes will be the greatest day of his career. But the disappearance of Joséphine’s precious medallion disrupts the celebrations. Julie is immediately accused because of her social situation, especially as she is wearing an almost identical piece of jewellery around her neck. However, security soon reveals that Andy is the real thief and that he attempted to frame Julie. This discovery leads to another, far more unexpected revelation: Julie’s medallion also belongs to Joséphine’s family. Abandoned outside a church as a baby, Julie discovers that her real name is Judith and that she is Joséphine’s twin sister. In this station, where everyone thought they were simply catching a train, two lives separated since birth finally come back together. The second act takes place aboard the Train 3000, travelling at full speed towards London. Among the passengers are Taylor Woodrow, responsible for monitoring the train’s performance, his assistant Julia, Rose, a mother always ready to hand out advice and medication, and April, a mysterious passenger suffering from travel sickness. The journey is overseen by Max, the conductor, and Sarah Berson, a particularly short-sighted driver who has misplaced her glasses. The atmosphere remains cheerful until the arrival of Stacy Dolores, a professional robber who has boarded the train with a fake ticket. Her goal is not simply to travel: she intends to steal the millions being transported in a carriage belonging to English banks. After triggering the train’s emergency stop, Stacy takes the passengers hostage. But thanks to Julia’s composure and Rose’s medication, the robber is subdued with a sleeping pill. A new problem then emerges: the train has no brakes, and Stacy’s accomplices may soon catch up with them. April eventually reveals that she is a mechanical engineer. Using the objects available on board, and in particular Sarah’s finally recovered glasses, she manages to repair an improvised brake system. The Train 3000 can continue its journey towards London. This adventure even inspires an idea as crazy as it is visionary: building a railway tunnel between France and England. Through these two stories, Crossroads explores unexpected encounters, social prejudices, family secrets and all those moments when different destinies cross paths and change direction forever. A lively ensemble comedy full of twists, colourful characters and absurd situations, where nobody reaches the end of the journey in quite the way they imagined.
