This performance was created and first performed on 2 May 2025 at the Courtyard Theatre in London by the company Act’in Theatre. It is the long-awaited opening night of Poor Man. Everything is ready... But disaster strikes! Every actor is confined to bed, unable to take to the stage. Cancellation seems inevitable. Yet, behind the scenes, a handful of people refuse to let the curtain remain closed and decide to save the performance by stepping onto the stage themselves. Awkwardly delivering lines they have never learned, improvising their way through the script and reinventing each role in their own style, they do everything they can to bring the play to life—under the despairing gaze of the director. The performance takes an unexpected turn, balancing somewhere between complete disaster and sheer brilliance. In this immersive theatre experience, where the audience becomes an accomplice to this desperate attempt, one question remains: can the magic of theatre still triumph, even when everything falls apart?
